TUSK is a trans-dimensional synthwave assassin, SAVING THE WORLD from fiery hell. A glassy look in his eyes is the only sign that NOTHING CAN SAVE HIM FROM HIMSELF.
TUSK is the new creation of Australian/Berlin-based Benjamin Teicher, the singer/producer/space weirdo behind Aurora Kiss, the camp, carefree pop revolutionary and Near Your House, the band which started Australia’s art-rock revival.
Teicher has never been conservative, in his music or choice of leggings. Subjected to a perpetual loop of Bowie’s Labyrinth as a child, his music is a pastiche of pop oddities. The hooks are indelible and the dislocated melodies and beats blast across the spectrum from acid house to future pop, chill-wave to rave. Teicher is hailed as a visionary by fans, a ‘dark and attractive’ talent by critics, and an electro-deviant by everyone else.
Berlin critics and European bloggers dub it ‘quirky electro pop’, and Teicher the ‘male Lady Gaga’ and ‘the queer electropop incarnation from outer space’.
No surprise then that he has shared the stage with electro hip-hop luminaries Yo Majesty, and is highly sought after as a collaborator and producer. With hit remixes for tigerbeat6, space-folk diva Mary Ocher and Cindy Wonderful from Scream Club under his belt, he’s currently producing a record with V, Berlin’s dark pop supernova.
Teicher has never been afraid to reinvent. This time around, it’s the disco rave swagger of TUSK. This is dance music for an age staring into apocalypse, synths married to science fiction, glitter under blacklights.
Following in the footsteps of his idols Ziggy Stardust and Fever Ray, TUSK takes his lyrical consciousness and brings it to life for a visceral and unmatched live experience.
Erotic and captivating, TUSK is a bounty hunter from the future, a “hired laser”, who has lived a thousand lives and slips through worlds and identities like a knife.
2012 sees the release of the Sacrifice album through Ramin Ton records. It threads a bittersweet space opera around the rising synths of relentless beats of 90s dance and trance. Electropop vocals and Byronic lyrics combine to tell the tale of an anti-hero saving the world while on the brink of his own self-destruction.
